if you’ve met me then you know i HATE new years eve. i just feel like we always make these great-in-theory plans that never actually pan out and the night ends up just a big disappointment. who wants to end the year like that?! last new years one of my besties and i ate our weight in taco bell, watched a movie, and fell asleep before midnight. no disappointment there! this year my girl alice and her husband are coming to nashville to celebrate. we won’t do anything elaborate (i hate crowds and there’s no way we’re going “out”), probably just a low key night at one of our friends houses with apps, zerts, and champs. i knew i wanted to try and look festive, but also be comfortable. i also knew i wasn’t spending a lot, so zara was my first (and only) stop. this dress is really comfortable, but i think the velvet trend makes it just fancy enough for new years. my valentino dupes are my go to shoe for most occasions, but lets be real, on new years eve i will most likely be wearing converse with this dress.

i hope everyone had a very merry christmas! ours was so busy but we got to see (almost) our entire family which is the best gift anyone can ask for. i’m a very thankful girl. there are so many after christmas/new years sales going on right now-put that christmas money to good use, y’all (or just treat yoself to all the stuff you didn’t get)!
zara: this zara sale is huge. HUGE.
on my wishlist are: this raincoat, this floral bomber, this shirtdress, this fun little dress, this sequin number that would be perfect for new years, this flowy checked blouse, this velvet tank, this embroidered button down, these ballet flats, these velvet loafers, these sneakers, and this bag.
zara also has the best kids section that i love to look at for all the babies my friends are having. i love this wee little fleece jacket for a boy or girl, these overalls, these little shorts, these mini sweatpants, these little boots, and this pompom hat.
shopbop: extra 25% off sale items with code TREATYOURSELF.
today’s the last day for this great sale. shopbop’s sales are one of the best ways to get high end designer items at a great discount. aquazzura heels for less than $200, wildfox sweats, rag & bone sneakers, rebecca minkoff saddle bag, an awesome free people velvet jacket, eberjey PJs, hunter boots, RAILS button down, frye boots, rag & bone jeans, and so many more great things. my tip for shopping this sale (and the nordstrom sale) is to set your filters to your favorite designers and your sizes and just look through everything so you don’t miss something. its tedious but its how i always find the best deals-especially if you sort the items low to high!
nordstrom: half yearly sale
gosh i love nordstrom. to get the best out of this sale, i think you should just dive in with the tip i mentioned above and comb through everything. there are just so many great deals that you don’t want to miss. i won’t go through and link my favorite clothing items this time because i honestly feel like i’m becoming redundant. but, here are some of my favorites from the home section (which i always forget about, but am pleasantly surprised when i remember to look at it). star wars stein for the star wars obsessed, 2017 planner, cork board world map, “don’t talk to me while i’m texting” mug (which i find HILARIOUS and i might get it to take to work), movie night trivia book, dominos, grid print gift wrap, cute wine glasses, “see america” book, a cute pom pom throw blanket, and lots of great deals on bedding, bath, and rugs.
a few weeks ago, marty and i took a vacation to our favorite place in the world: disney world. i know i know, we’re adults. why is our favorite vacation spot a place where the central character is a cartoon mouse. and i’ll tell you why: IT’S THE HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH PEOPLE. literally!! i’m considering doing a bigger blog post on all my disney tips (because if i counted correctly this was my 13th trip to a disney theme park so i know some stuff), but for now i’ll just talk about this trip.
outfit details: BCBG romper (similar), j.crew sandals
breakfast at the beasts castle! you normally have to book a reservation months and months in advance, but sometimes they have walk in tables available and we got lucky and just walked right in. it was so cool and just how i’ve always pictured it to be. there was this main dining room from the big “beauty and the beast” scene, then another room with the torn up beast picture and the rose, and a third room like the dining room in “be our guest.” SO SO COOL.
the castle all lit up like this is the entire reason we went to disney world during the holidays. so unbelievably pretty.
when we go to disney, we always get the park hopper ticket. that way we can enter and re-enter the parks as many times as we want to throughout the day. we usually go to all four parks, but since we had limited park time this trip, we decided to stick to just magic kingdom and epcot since you can ride the monorail between the two parks. we went to the parks on friday, sunday, and monday and had the best time bouncing between magic kingdom and epcot. i’ve always dreamed of seeing disney world decorated for christmas and it did NOT disappoint. talk about magical!! i even cried at one point because of how overwhelmed i was with the magic of it all.
we spent saturday exploring the new disney springs. if you’re familiar with disney world then you’ll know this is the “new” downtown disney with added restaurants and shopping. it’s AMAZING. so many unique restaurants and great new stores including zara and uniqlo (i had never been in uniqlo before and i am now obsessed). we also got to see the new christmas drone show while we were there. i know it sounds weird, but trust me, it was so so cool. here’s a youtube video of it. doesn’t do its justice but you get the idea.
we spent tuesday before our flight exploring the different disney properties. if you’ve never visited the different resorts while down there, marty and i highly recommend it. it’s so fun to see the different themes of each resort, and how magical each one is. we started the day with brunch at our favorite disney restaurant, the grand floridian cafe, located inside the grand floridian resort-which has the most beautiful christmas tree i’ve ever seen and a life size gingerbread house in the lobby. then, we rode the monorail around to our favorite resort, the polynesian. this resort is one of the original two that opened in 1971 when magic kingdom opened (disney nerd alert). marty and i love it because here you can grab a dole whip (YUM) and walk along the beach and see magic kingdom from the shore (another nerdy thing we like). after the polynesian, we drove over to the wilderness lodge to see its christmas decorations. this resort is AMAZING. i don’t even know how to explain how huge, yet super cozy it is. it’s like the worlds biggest cabin. plus there’s a really cool waterfall/stream that goes from the lobby to the pool and it’s just so neat.
if you’ve made it this far, i hope you enjoyed this super long disney recap. it really is my favorite place in the world (if you couldn’t tell by this point).
i recognize that these are not the best quality pictures, but, taking pictures inside is hard! so if anyone has any tips, please send them.
i’m trying to soak up as much christmas as i can. its my favorite time of year (duh) and i get really depressed at the thought that its almost over. i distinctly remember one time as a child laying in the floor after we had taken down our tree and picking up the fallen [plastic] needles and crying because christmas was gone. i’ve tried everything i can this year to make the christmas season last longer (our tree has been up since november 10), but ends up you can’t stop time and bam! here we are.
also if you still need gifts, i put together a last minute gift guide here.
since christmas is days away (how because it was literally halloween last week!), i figured i would put together a little gift guide of sorts for all you last minute shoppers out there. don’t worry, i’m not done christmas shopping either. honestly, i’m probably just going to count on amazon prime to read my mind and just start dropping stuff off at my door.
for your dad: a drone to play with, grill master cookbook, a fancy tie set, a smartwatch, shaving kit, a classic work bag/briefcase, the james bond boxed set, any sort of power tool, laser gun alarm clock
for your mom: a classic tote bag, the perfect pair of slippers, christmas dishes, unique earrings, the downton abbey boxed set, tech gloves for texting and staying warm, scrabble fridge magnets, the handbag raincoat (has there ever been a more mom gift?!)
for your sister: marble iPhone case, cozy leggings (grab a pair for yourself too and let your mom take cutsey christmas pictures!), faux fur earmuffs, this perfume sampler to help her find her favorite scent, dainty initial necklace, fringe booties
for your bestie for the restie: a unique crossbody bag, “she believed she could, so she did” cuff, the perfect plaid scarf, harry potter trivial pursuit (and if your best friend doesn’t like harry potter then they shouldn’t be your best friend anymore), daily devotional, monogram mug
for your work christmas party: a festive candle, fun red plaid thermos for all the coffee you need during the day, mug cakes cookbook, a pretty bottle opener, mindy kaling’s “questions i ask when i want to talk about myself”, bag of awkward questions
for your bae: a classic denim jacket (marty has this one and loves it), a record player (and chris stapleton’s traveller to go with it), a nice watch, old school electronic baseball, gaming system/games, a single cup keurig, cool nikes
for the kids: old fashioned, regular ole legos for building towers and cities that aren’t batman or star wars themed, walkie talkies for all their spy needs, glow in the dark kicks, fuzzy cat socks, a jellycat bunny lovey (i know a kid that would argue this is the best gift in the world ever), basketball set
hopefully this was helpful to y’all! i definitely got some gift inspiration while i was making it. now fingers crossed it all gets here in time…
a little holiday party outfit inspo for you! except maybe invest in a battery pack for your lights so you don’t have to stay plugged into the same wall all night? or, plan to stay plugged in as a way to not be social at your awkward work christmas party! totally your call (though i would for sure use the plug excuse to just sit in the same spot all night and avoid as many people as possible).
black jeans, camel sweater, and backless loafers for an easy outfit thats way classier than i actually am. i don’t think i’ve ever owned loafers before, but this gucci pair has recently caught my eye and i can’t stop dreaming about them. (sigh) maybe one day. this zara pair will suffice until then.
