Monthly Archives: October 2016

hot [out] here.

thanks to this weirdo weather we’re having, its october 30 and i’m wearing shorts and sandals. do i live in florida? brazil? the sun? seriously what is with 90 degrees of heat outside? summer was great and all, but its getting old. however, since its going to be unseasonably warm for the next who knows how long, order this romper!! its marked down to $10 and there are still some sizes left!

details: old navy romper, j.crew slides, sunglasses (so great-i have them in three colors!)

where’s the harley?

i wish i had a dollar for every person that came up to me and said “hey, where’d you park your motorcycle?” the other day when i wore this outfit to work. can’t a girl just wear all black and cool boots on a monday?!

details: shirt, 7FAM jeans, similar boots here, here, and this dream pair (sigh).

destroyed denim.

sooooooooo the hole in the left knee of these jeans did not start out that big. but life and preschool happened and before i knew it, my practically my entire leg can be seen. oh well!

i love these jeans because:
1. they’re so comfortable
2. they look a lot like this one teaspoon style that i love so much but can’t seem to make fit me (the pairs i’ve tried on have exactly ZERO stretch in them and when you have big thighs and big calves and big hips, it just doesn’t work).
3. they only cost me something like $30 because gap is the best.

details: free people thermal, gap jeans (similar), j.crew sandals, sunglasses

also these pictures were taken by my friend and coworker, lauren. she did such great job!!

sales and steals no. 3.

these sale posts are becoming my favorite because in a surprising turn of events, i love to shop.

no show socks are pretty much all i wear, and this two pack of southwest themed socks is adorable. this is [nearly] everyone’s favorite pocket tee [its also the same price at nordstrom if you wanted to grab one while shopping there]. i just ordered these PJ shorts and cannot wait for them to arrive today. maybe not a steal, but definitely a great sale on madewell’s famous billie boot.

the “special prices” section at zara is my kryptonite. just give me all the things, please. this mixed media striped top, this oversized button down, this super trendy bomber jacket, this flowy romper with a great lace detail in the back, and this quilted crossbody bag with patches that is very reminiscent of this chanel boy bag (swoon).

all of these $7 wine glasses, please. a $10 eberjay adorable sleep cami–TEN DOLLARS. planning to stock up on these sweet “congrats baby” cards for all the baby showers i have coming up. the sweetest sugar bowl. i don’t need anymore olive colored items in my closet for fall, but i’m loving this skirt. this phone case is so perfect. obsessed with this pair of railroad stripe jeans.

if i’m being completely honest, i don’t love this jumpsuit by itself. its one of those things that looked great the first time i wore it, but got all funky in the wash and has never looked the same. i’ve kept it in my closet because i feel like its a great staple and someday either it will magically go back to its original shape or my body will totally change and it will fit better. when i threw this sweater over it, and it worked, i said “quick marty grab the camera this might actually look good!!”

details: gap outlet jumpsuit (very similar), harlowe & graham sweater (similar), adidas superstars, sunglasses

floral boots.

one random night last spring, i was searching eBay for rag & bone boots, and i stumbled across this pair of boots for FIFTY DOLLARS. of course i thought i had hit the jackpot so i placed a bid and patiently waited for the auction to end. and then it did end, when someone outbid me at the last second and i didn’t notice because i had my eBay app notifications turned off. rookie mistake. i was so so mad at myself and for the next 6 months i searched and searched and searched eBay for another pair in my size to no avail. last october, i started using poshmark to sell my clothes and on a hunch searched “rag & bone floral boots size 39” and there they were!! it was a miracle. they were a little more worn than i would have preferred (i think the seller had worn them 3 or 4 times) but at that point, beggars can’t be choosers you know?!

details: j.crew jeans, gap chambray shirt (mine is super old, but this one is very similar!), rag & bone boots here, or just google “rag & bone floral booties” and a bunch will pop up!

sales & steals no. 2.

i got a lot of great feedback after doing this post last week, so i’m bringing you another week of great deals. happy shopping–and let me know what great things you get!!

shopbop: 25% off your order, 30% off your order if you spend more than $500 with the code MAINEVENT16
essentially everything at shopbop is on sale, with very few exclusions (which you can find here). this is actually insane because so many great designer pieces are up to 30% off-things that rarely, if ever go on sale. if you have the funds, i would HIGHLY recommend these rag & bone newbury boots (i have 3 pairs-they’re that great) and these (or any) stuart weitzman over the knee boots. they’re my dream boots and the first thing i’m buying if i ever win the lottery.
when shopbop has these big sales, my favorite strategy is the actual sale section since its also 25% off. so far i’ve ordered this bodysuit, these pj shorts, and this phone case (as if i needed another…). i’m also thinking about this lace up dress, these free people leggings, this coat, these booties, and this duffle bag.
y’all seriously need to check out this sale. this is also my favorite sale to grab undies, bralettes, and swimwear at a great price. but hurry because it ends tomorrow night at midnight!

these boots look just like these free people boots, but for nearly $100 less. these dolce vita booties are some of my favorites (worn in this post and this post) and they’re on sale right now for $28! in an incredibly lucky turn of events this week, i scored these chairs at target for only $50 somehow. i think someone bought them, put them together, and then decided they didn’t want them? which is fine by me, i’m not asking any questions. if you’re in the market for halloween decorations, you get $5 off if you spend $25 or $10 off if you spend $40 right now at target. i have my eye on these mini glitter pumpkins, this wood slice wreath, this clear jar (perfect for candy corn storage!!), and this festive sign.

nordstrom rack:
how cute would this little top be with a jean jacket or a boyfriend cardigan? nordstrom rack is always my go-to for wildfox pieces, and right now they have a lot of great items on clearance, including a few of their super soft pullovers! this $20 crossbody is the perfect little going out bag. love the fringe detail!!

when in doubt…

all black is always my solution to standing in my closet and not knowing what to wear (which is most days). i love this peasant top from nordstrom rack-the material is light enough to wear while its still warm out, but the color is perfect for the season.

random thought: as much as i love fall, i hate how late the sunrises and how early it sets in this awkward time before daylight savings. how am i supposed to get up and moving when its so dark out/how am i supposed to be productive at night when the sun sets at 6PM?! guess i’ll just sleep in and watch a lot of dateline until the time change. oh well.

details: shirt, j.crew denim, charles by charles david booties (similar)

moving on up.

details: old navy tank-i can’t find it online, but this one is a similar style, free people bralette, mcguire jeans, forever 21 sandals, fitbit band, sunglasses

these are probably the last blog photos we will take around my parents yard/street/neighborhood because WE FINALLY MOVED INTO OUR CONDO. its a disaster zone and there are boxes everywhere but i managed to fit all 50 pairs of my shoes into our master closet so i guess its home now. i will probably do some sort of home tour blog post thing once we’re settled and we’ve painted over all the tan paint. i’m excited to be here, but i’ll be even more excited to be settled in and organized. which will hopefully be sooner rather than later, because i’m a little bit like monica gellar and can’t STAND clutter.

sales & steals.

there are so many great sales and markdowns happening right now, and not just on summer stuff! i’ve rounded up my favorites from j.crew, nordstrom, and macy’s, but most stores are clearing out their end of summer/pre fall merchandise PLUS its apparently columbus day weekend so i would be willing to bet nearly every store is offering extra off your total or of their sale section to celebrate the occasion.

j.crew: 30% off [most] regular priced items + 40% off sale + 50% off final sale items
this field jacket, this trench, and this jean jacket are all literal actual steals from the j.crew website. i actually bought the trench last night and am so excited to wear it. i feel like my wardrobe is 10X classier because of it. i also have that jean jacket and i love it! each of these jackets are all so easy to layer for fall. i’m hoping i can sneakily buy the field jacket without marty noticing because its just so perfect. these dark wash jeans are some of my favorites from last season, and i actually just bought another pair. warning though-the color transfers lots. i would suggest washing at twice before wearing them with lighter colors! this cashmere sweater is only $60 right now after the discount. too bad cashmere has no place in a preschool classroom 🙁

i have this free people tank in two colors. its great to wear by itself now (while its still 90 in nashville), and then to layer once it cools off. cowl neck sweaters don’t look right on me, but someone needs to take advantage of this $27 price tag. its so cute!! please someone go buy this sweater in every color. these sweet little ugg boots are adorable. last year when i (finally) bought a new pair of uggs, i wanted the minis so badly but couldn’t find them in stores in my size. would i be a crazy person to have the same color in short and minithese tall uggs are actually water resistant and 30% off right now, too!

macy’s has an awesome free people selection that i’m constantly browsing. i love these raw hem jeans. and they’re only $23! what?! while we’re on the subject of jeans, these are a great pair of black jeans, and are only $32. (do you see why i always buy free people at macy’s?) this draped crossover top is a closet staple. so easy to dress up or down, and the wrap detail is so sweet. this thin, long sleeve tee would be perfect to have on hand for layering the two or three times it snows [in nashville] this winter. i love a good drapey and loose henley shirt.
